A Graduação em Serviço Social e a prática na área da Saúde: Um estudo no município de São Paulo

Resumo
A profissão de assistente social apresenta particularidades e singularidades em
diversos espaços sócio ocupacionais. Por ser um profissional que atua no
âmbito das políticas sociais a saúde representa ‘um’ e não ‘único’ campo de
atuação profissional. Neste trabalho, investigamos a formação profissional do
assistente social e seu preparo para a prática na área da saúde junto às cinco
escolas com curso reconhecido e completo de Serviço Social do município de
São Paulo no ano de 2006. Utilizamos um caminho exploratório, descritivoanalítico
com abordagens quantitativa e qualitativa. Na perspectiva quantitativa
aplicamos um questionário, conforme escala de likert, em 128 alunos, em final
de curso. Na perspectiva qualitativa a entrevista semi-estruturada foi o
instrumento para a coleta de dados junto aos coordenadores dos cursos.
Utilizamos análise temática para análise do material coletado. Ainda que esta
pesquisa esteja circunscrita a uma investigação local - o município de São
Paulo - entendemos apontar dados significativos para o cenário nacional. A
saúde tem reconhecimento unânime, seja por parte dos coordenadores, seja
em relação à maioria dos estudantes (86%), como importante campo de
atuação do assistente social. A análise das entrevistas mostrou três formas de
inserção da saúde nos projetos pedagógicos dos cursos: abordagem curricular
como uma das expressões da questão social; abordagem curricular como uma
das possibilidades de aprofundamento do estudante e abordagem como
temática específica de uma unidade curricular. Os estudantes em final de
curso consideram insuficientes os conteúdos relacionados com saúde na
graduação e uma escassez de práticas nesta área no estágio. Observamos
que aprender, exercer e ensinar a profissão de assistente social vai além da
aquisição dos conhecimentos durante a graduação e/ou treinamento de alguns
procedimentos técnicos no período de estágio ‘obrigatório’. Na área da saúde,
trata-se de um processo onde se aprende e se ensina a lidar com o ser
humano, em momentos de maior fragilidade e naquilo que ele tem de mais
precioso.
The occupation of social worker features peculiarities, singularities in a variety of social settings within the community. Health is one of the social worker’s field of activities, not the only one. This professional deals with multidisciplinary teams. In the present project, an investigation was carried out the social workers’ education and their competence, also their ability to work in the health area. The studies took place in São Paulo city in 2006, precisely involving acknowledged Social Service courses in five different educational institutions. An exploratory, analytic-descriptive method was used, with quantitative and qualitative approaches. As quantitative approach, a hundred and twenty-eight graduating students were asked to answer a questionnaire, following the likert scale. As qualitative approach, a semi-structured interview was the tool to collect data from the courses coordinators. In order to analyze the collected material, a study for topics was done. Although this is a local research, carried out in São Paulo municipal area, the collected data is by no means significant for the country as a whole. It is common knowledge among most of coordinators and students (86%), they truly admit it, that health area, is an important field of activities for the social worker. The interviews showed the role of health within the pedagogical projects in three different ways: firstly as an important social matter in the curriculum to be discussed as such. Secondly as a possibility for a deep and further study by the students and finally as a specific subject into the curriculum grid. Those students in their final year of the course, consider the subjects related to the health area insufficient, as well as they feel the lack of practice in their internship period. Learning, putting into practice and teaching the profession of a social worker goes beyond the only acquisition of knowledge during the graduation course and/or the practice of technical procedures during the compulsory internship period. As far as health is concerned, a social worker has to learn how to deal with the human beings in their most fragile moments, taking care of their most precious asset, their health.
