Bitcoin technology was born with the purpose of being used in means of payment, but although there are many people trading the currency, it is still not used on a large scale in the payment segment. Bitcoin has advantages over traditional digital payment methods, but there are still technical and social impediments that hinder its use. Regarding technological problems, the time to determine a transaction is the main one, and due to the fluctuation in the value of the currency, this time may make its use in face-to-face payments unfeasible. On the social side, a lack of knowledge in Bitcoin and its poor user interface make it harder for more people to join. In this dissertation, a systematic review of the literature on benefits and challenges in the use of Bitcoin in retail was carried out. A survey was also conducted with retailers in the city of São José dos Campos-SP to identify the level of knowledge and interest about Bitcoin. Functional, non functional and business requirements were raised and the POC of the proposed platform was developed. The POC will work integrated with the system that the commerce already uses, abstracting the technological part and allowing shopkeepers - without previous knowledge in Bitcoin - to use it in their establishment. The platform will also be responsible for converting Bitcoin into reais, allowing shopkeepers to use it without risk of loss with a possible currency devaluation. In addition, feasibility simulations and compilations of legal aspects of the use of digital currencies in Brazil were also carried out.
