In the 21st century, journalism has gained a larger role as a form of communication through its integration into digital media, resulting in a broader reach and dissemination of its content, as well as facilitating access to information and public involvement in its creation. During the popular uprisings that erupted in various countries in the Middle East and North Africa between 2010 and 2011, digital communication became a crucial tool for social mobilization and news sharing. It was in this period that the digital newspaper Enab Baladi was created in Syria, in the suburb of Darayya, in 2011, in response to the uprisings and the escalating violence against civilians by Bashar al-Assad's regime. This historical context is widely known as the Arab Spring; however, its developments within the Syrian context presented particularities that led to a hybrid war that has lasted for approximately 13 years. With this in mind, this research aimed to investigate the contemporary history about Syria, understanding the country's historical process up to the civil protests of 2011, considering the events that transformed this scenario into a war, the aspects of this conflict, and, most importantly, how Enab Baladi reported on the conflicts in the selected texts. The articles analyzed were selected based on those authored by female journalists, to examine the particularities of their narratives, and those from the period of 2016 to 2020.
