Surfing came to be considered a sport at the beginning of the 20th century and its evolution has been very fast because it is currently a sport with worldwide recognition and admired by most people, even if not all of them practice it. The evolution of surfboards was extremely important so that today the sport is practiced in high performance, and not only that, but also took the sport to the extreme with surfing in giant waves. This evolution of the boards was carried out based on the concepts of hydrodynamics, with the idea of what would be the response of the board if certain items were changed. Surfing is a very different sport from others because it doesn't just depend on the practitioner or equipment, it also depends on the nature factor that defines when and where the swells will touch, if the waves will be good, bad, big or small and besides that neither all cities have the privilege of being coastal, thus having the possibility of practicing the sport only in artificial wave pools, which are on the rise all over the world. Based on the characteristics of the boards, the waves and the surfer, it is possible to assess whether the board is working well for that situation, and if not, what change in the board would be effective to improve its functionality for the surfer. With that, the objective of this research is to teach the basis of the concepts used to evaluate the situation in the surfer and wave factors, to define according to the theories of hydrodynamics how the board would be the most functional and harmonic for that situation, evaluating real examples presented. in the results
