Negotiations on the Association Agreement between Mercosur and the European Union were finalised in 2019. Today, the agreement depends on the ratification of the Member States of both regions. However, there are some discussions that prevent the advancement of this relationship between the two blocks. At the center of this is the Brazilian government of President Bolsonaro, which exhibits an anti-environmentalist stance towards burning and deforestation in the Amazon region. Thus, this research seeks to understand whether the environmental policies of the Bolsonaro government on the Brazilian Amazon hinder the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.
