Prevalência de violência entre pares em amostra epidemiológica de alunos do Ensino Fundamental 1

Abstract

Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar a prevalência de bullying e sua associação com problemas de saúde mental entre estudantes do ensino fundamental 1 em duas cidades no Brasil. Embora a literatura tenha estudado extensivamente o bullying, a pesquisa em estudantes do ensino fundamental 1, particularmente em países de baixa e média renda, é escassa. Usando dados do ECR do Programa Elos, o estudo avaliou 1.500 estudantes em escolas públicas de ensino fundamental. O Questionário Revisado de agressor/vítima de Olweus (The revised Olweus bully/victim questionnaire) e o Questionário de Forças e Dificuldades (The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, SDQ) foram usados para coletar dados dos alunos de 1º ao 4º. ano fundamental. Os resultados mostraram que a prevalência de bullying foi de 47,3% e problemas clínicos no SDQ foram de 34,2% entre estudantes do ensino fundamental. Os modelos multivariados demonstraram que o bullying estava significativamente associado a Problemas de Conduta (p = 0,008) e a Hiperatividade (p = 0,004) no nível clínico. O estudo sugere que o bullying está associado a problemas de saúde mental em crianças. Portanto, o estudo destaca a necessidade de prevenção e tratamento do bullying para mitigar seu impacto negativo na saúde mental das crianças.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of bullying and its association with mental health problems among elementary school students in two cities in Brazil. While the literature has extensively studied bullying, research on elementary school students, particularly in low and middle income countries, is scarce. Using data nested in the Elos Program RCT, the study evaluated 1,500 students in public elementary schools. The revised Olweus bully/victim questionnaire and The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) were used to collect data from 1st to 4th grade students. The results showed that the prevalence of Bullying was 47.3% and clinical problems in SDQ was 34.2% among elementary school students. The multivariate models demonstrated that Bullying was significantly associated with Conduct (p=0.008) and with Hyperactivity (p=0.004) at the clinical level. The study suggests that Bullying is associated with mental health problems in children. Therefore, the study highlights the need for prevention and treatment of bullying to mitigate its negative impact on children's mental health.
