Cardiac hemodynamics is the way blood flows through blood vessels. Starting with the heart, the organ responsible for pumping blood to the rest of the body. Being the main function of the circulatory system is to transport oxygen and nutrients to cells throughout the body. In some ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks and later the Romans, the heart meant much more than an organ for pumping blood, being considered at times the central part of the body where the soul and even other spirits were located. Today we know that the heart is about the size of a fist and is located in the center of the thoracic cavity. The pointed apex of the heart faces down and to the left side of the body, while its wider base is just behind the breastbone. Currently almost 18 million people around the world die from cardiovascular disease, being the leading cause of death in the world. On the other hand, aerobic physical exercise is widely indicated to improve cardiovascular health. As a result, many people look to street racing as a way to improve their cardiovascular health and many street racing enthusiasts end up participating in marathons. Marathon races are becoming increasingly popular, with emphasis on the substantial increase in the number of amateur runners who are mainly looking to improve their health and physical well-being. On the other hand, little is known about the hemodynamic effects of marathons in amateur athletes. Thus, the acute cardiovascular fatigue of amateur runners after a marathon was evaluated. In this work, 16 volunteers were evaluated before and after the São Paulo International Marathon held in 2019. Cardiac parameters were evaluated using cardiographic impedance (Physioflow), a validated, non-invasive and easily applicable method. P value considered was 0.05. At the end of the race, the volunteers suffered hemodynamic changes that suggest transient cardiac fatigue.
