This monograph seeks to propose an analysis of how the representation of the character Godzilla has changed throughout the year, since his creation in 1954, to the present day through two filmic objects. Permeating through historical events that led to the creation of the original movie, and that, to this day, still relevant, approaching in a critical way the United States actions towards Japan, but also recalling the actions taken by the Japanese nation towards Asian nations. Between dozens of versions produced of the Japanese classic, the objects of analysis and comparison will be: the original movie, produced in 1954, directed by Ishirô Honda and the first entirely North American produced in 1998, and directed by Roland Emmerich. Establishing a dialogue with other productions from the franchise, and movies from the same time period which stood out within pop culture, based on reflections about the use of nuclear weapons and devices, as well as its consequences to humanity.
