Quando perceber faz toda diferença: reflexão sobre topofilia com relação a praça Arlindo Luz, zona norte de São Paulo (SP)

Abstract

O surgimento das praças está intrinsicamente relacionado ao surgimento das cidades e, tal como estas, são diversas, existindo inúmeros tipos com diferentes usos e funções, entre as quais estéticas, sociais e ambientais. Dentro dessa perspectiva, o objetivo do presente estudo foi realizar a avaliação da percepção ambiental de frequentadores da Praça Arlindo Luz, situada na zona norte do município de São Paulo (SP), procurando identificar a existência de sentimentos topofílicos com relação à praça. O presente trabalho teve caráter qualitativo exploratório, na forma de um estudo de caso, mediante aplicação de questionário estrutura on-line e de observação participante. Participaram do estudo 22 indivíduos e os resultados encontrados evidenciaram que, mesmo apresentando uma percepção a respeito da importância de áreas verdes na cidade, não foi possível identificar sentimentos topofílicos com relação à Praça Arlindo Luz entre a maioria dos entrevistados. A partir disso, propõem-se que intervenções de Educação Ambiental que favoreçam o surgimento ou fortalecimento de vínculo topofílico com o local.

The emergence of squares is intrinsically related to the emergence of cities and, like these, they are diverse, existing countless types with different uses and functions, among which aesthetic, social and environmental. Within this perspective, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the environmental perception of people who frequent Arlindo Luz Square, located in the northern part of the city of São Paulo (SP), seeking to identify the existence of topophilic feelings towards the square. The present work had an exploratory qualitative character, in the form of a case study, through the application of an online structured questionnaire and participant observation. 22 individuals participated in the study and the results found showed that, even presenting a perception regarding the importance of green areas in the city, it was not possible to identify topophilic feelings towards the Arlindo Luz Square among most of the interviewees. From this, it is proposed that Environmental Education interventions favor the emergence or strengthening of topophilic attachment to the place.
