Brazil is the world’s fourth largest country in terms of consumption of toiletries, cosmetics and perfumery. However, negroes (blacks and browns), who represents 54% of the population, are still a minority in the scope of these products. In this context, this work aims to study the development and formulation of hair care and makeup products, considering the differences between negros and Caucasians and also analyze market trends, consumption patterns and communication with the final consumer. There was an increase in number of products that met specific and/or predominant characteristics of the black population, such as dark skin and frizzy hair, respectively. In the last decade there was an increase in the offer of makeup in dark tones, especially foundation and concealer, and hair care lines especially for frizzy and curly hair. Despite this industry movement, little academic production on the subject was found.
