Obesity is a chronic disease that has negative impacts on health. The increase in abdominal fat causes changes in the center of gravity, which can lead to deficits in postural balance and functional capacity during the performance of functional tasks. The activation of the lumbar-pelvic muscles through postural strengthening and awareness can reduce the mechanical overload applied to the passive structures of the spine, improving the stability of the trunk and consequently balance and functionality. However, there are no conclusive studies that have evaluated the effects of interdisciplinary therapy on these aspects. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of interdisciplinary therapy on the activation of the transverse muscle of the abdomen, functionality, dynamic balance, and ankle mobility in obese adult women. The sample consisted of 45 obese women aged 30 to 50 years and with a BMI between 30 and 39.9 kg / m². The volunteers were randomized into three groups: Physical exercise group, Interdisciplinary treatment group and Health education group, who participated in the program and were evaluated at baseline, 16 and 32 weeks. The volunteers were assessed for functional capacity, dynamic balance and mobility of the ankles, BMI, neck and waist perimeter, body fat, fasting glucose and insulin, adiponectin, leptin and IGF-1. From the results, it can be said that interdisciplinary therapy was more effective than combined physical training alone and the Health Education group for control/ prevention of dysfunctions and biomechanical changes related to activation of the transverse muscle of the abdomen, dynamic balance and functionality in obese adult women.
