The energy dependence of leading neutron spectra

Abstract We use the color dipole formalism to study e + p -> e + n + X collisions at high energies and calculate the Feynman momentum (x(L)) distribution of leading neutrons, which is expressed in terms of the pion flux and the photon-pion total cross section. The latter is expressed in terms of the dipole-pion scattering amplitude, which contains information about gluon saturation effects. We show that the recently released H1 leading neutron spectra can be well described with the color dipole formalism and that these spectra can help us to observe gluon saturation effects in future ep colliders.
