Lourenço filho e a matematização da pedagogia : dos testes psicológicos para os testes pedagógicos

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the changes in the school routine and in mathematics, especially from the application of psychological tests in the period in the history of education known as the New School movement. Points Manoel Bergström Lourenço Filho as the protagonist of a scientific pedagogy, when developed the ABC tests: to check the maturity necessary for learning to read and write. The work guided the organization of school groups in homogeneous classes and allowed to think about new pedagogical practices. From ABC tests, it moved to the pedagogical tests in school environment. This process highlighted the mathematization of pedagogy. Such transformation is characterized by the measurement technique; standardized school evaluations; quantitative or statistical data in which experimentation is essential to attest the proper functioning of the educational system. The Report of Activities during the year 1936, in the primary school attached to the Normal School of Casa Branca (São Paulo state) and the Journals of Education that circulated in the 1930s are main sources of this research, allowing to check historically how the advancement of the understanding of the relationships established between the educational and the mathematical field have been consolidated. Particularly was interesting to understand the impact of ABC Tests in the constitution of pedagogical tests to evaluation of the teaching of mathematics, under the theoretical and methodological tools of Cultural History. In conclusion, the research will point representations constructed within a mathematization of pedagogy that were present even today, among them: homogenization among students, evaluations divided into levels of difficulty, etc.

Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar as transformações ocorridas no cotidiano escolar e à matemática, especialmente, a partir da aplicação de testes psicológicos no período conhecido na história da educação como movimento da Escola Nova. Aponta Manoel Bergström Lourenço Filho como protagonista de uma pedagogia científica, ao desenvolver os Testes ABC: para verificação da maturidade necessária à aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita. A obra orientou a organização das turmas escolares em classes homogêneas e permitiu pensar em novas práticas pedagógicas. Dos testes ABC, passou-se aos testes pedagógicos no meio escolar. Esse processo evidenciou a matematização da pedagogia. Tal transformação é caracterizada pela técnica de mensuração; de avalições escolares estandardizadas; de dados quantitativos ou estatísticos, os quais a experimentação é ingrediente indispensável para procurar atestar o bom funcionamento do sistema educacional. O Relatório das Atividades desenvolvidas durante o ano de 1936, no curso primário anexo à Escola Normal de Casa Branca (interior de São Paulo) e as Revistas de Educação que circularam na década de 1930 constituem-se como fontes principais desta pesquisa, permitindo verificar historicamente como se consolidou o avanço do entendimento das relações constituídas entre o campo pedagógico e o campo matemático. Particularmente, interessou entender o impacto dos Testes ABC na constituição dos testes pedagógicos para avaliação do ensino de matemática, sob o ferramental teórico e metodológico da História Cultural. Como conclusões, a pesquisa apontará representações construídas no âmbito de uma matematização da pedagogia, que se fizeram presentes até os dias atuais, dentre as quais: homogeneização entre os alunos, avaliações divididas em níveis de dificuldade, etc.
