HEADACHES IN CHILDHOOD - PROSPECTIVE-STUDY OF 155 CASES

Abstract

We studied 155 cases of headache in children. The mean age was nine (+/- 2.78) with no significant sex differences. The frontal localization was found in 53.5 percent of cases, whereas hemicrania was just found in 9.5 percent of cases. The most frequent factors associated were nausea, vomiting, and visual symptoms. Emotional stress was the most common triggering factor identified. Family history of migraine was found in 65.5 percent of cases. Out of 67 patients suffering migraine, 63 underwent prophylactic treatment with pizotifen or propranolol. There was satisfactory clinical response in roughly 85 percent of cases with both drugs.
