- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Adaptação cultural cruzada e validação da versão do Índice Funcional de Espondilite Anquilosante de Bath (BASFI) para o português do Brasil(Sociedade Brasileira de Reumatologia, 2012-10-01) Cusmanich, Karla Garcez; Kowalski, Sérgio Candido [UNIFESP]; Gallinaro, Andréa Lopes [UNIFESP]; Goldenstein-Schainberg, Claudia; Souza, Lilian Avila Lima e; Gonçalves, Célio Roberto; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: To conduct a cross-cultural adaptation of the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) into Brazilian-Portuguese language and to assess its measurement properties. METHODS: The BASFI was translated by four rheumatologists and three English teachers. The translated questionnaire was applied to ankylosing spondylitis patients by trained observers, and self-administered in three moments: days 1, 2, and 14. The validity was assessed analyzing the association of BASFI and functional capacity measures (cervical rotation, intermalleolar distance, Schober's test and occiput-to-wall distance). The internal consistence was tested by Cronbach's αcoefficient and the reliability by testretest (intraclass correlation coefficient - ICC). RESULTS: A total of 60 patients with ankylosing spondylitis was included: 85% male, mean age 47 ± 12 years, and mean disease duration 20 ± 11 years. The intra-observer test-retest (two-week interval) reliability showed a high ICC (0.999, 95% CI: 0.997-0.999) and a high internal consistency (Cronbach's α coefficient: 0.86, CI 95%: 0.80-0.90). Considering the validity, the BASFI indices were correlated with cervical rotation (0.53, P < 0.001) and with intermalleolar distance (0.50, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The BASFI Brazilian-Portuguese version is reliable and valid for assessment of patients with ankylosing spondylitis.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Adaptação transcultural para o português da escala Adult Self-Report Scale para avaliação do transtorno de déficit de atenção/hiperatividade (TDAH) em adultos(Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, 2006-01-01) Mattos, Paulo; Segenreich, Daniel; Saboya, Eloísa; Louzã, Mário; Dias, Gabriela; Romano, Marcos [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro Instituto de Psiquiatria da UFRJ; Instituto de Psiquiatria da UFRJ; Universidade de Würzburg; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); UFRJ Instituto de Psiquiatria; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)The criteria listed in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV) from the American Psychiatric Association are the most used ones for the diagnosis of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) being based on field studies with children and adolescents. The Adult Self-Report Scale (ASRS, version 1.1) was developed to adapt those symptoms to an adult life context. The present study consisted of a transcultural adaptation of the original instrument in English into a final version to be used in Brazil. Results indicated a satisfactory equivalence between versions, with some modifications being done after debriefing, supporting the importance of this step in studies like this.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Avaliação de instrumentos de medida usados em pacientes com fibromialgia(Sociedade Brasileira de Reumatologia, 2012-08-01) Alves, Adriana Martins Barros [UNIFESP]; Natour, Jamil [UNIFESP]; Assis, Marcos Renato de [UNIFESP]; Pollak, Daniel Feldman [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Faculdade de Medicina de MaríliaOBJECTIVE: To assess the different measure instruments used for patients with fibromyalgia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study assessed 60 individuals participating in a clinical trial of cross-sectional cohort comparing the effects of exercises performed in water and on land. The following instruments were used: the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) to assess the impact of the disease; the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) to assess quality of life; the Beck Depression Inventory to assess depression; and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of pain. Those questionnaires were compared with the results obtained in a transitional Likert-type scale, the verbal scale for assessing change (VSAC), considered as a criterion of change in the assessment of other instruments. RESULTS: The Spearman coefficient was used to study the correlation between the VSAC measure and the other instruments at two occasions (T1 and T2). At T1, a moderate correlation was observed between VSAC and VAS (r = 0.49), and between VSAC and FIQ (r = 0.41), and a negative correlation was observed between VSAC and the SF-36 domains pain (r = -0.49) and general health perception (r = -0.55), and the SF-36 physical component (r = -0.42). At T2, only the SF-36 domain vitality showed a weak negative correlation with VSAC (r = -0.27). CONCLUSION: Considering VSAC as gold standard, none of the instruments assessed could optimally identify a change in the health status of patients with fibromyalgia.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Caudal septoplasty: efficacy of a surgical technique-preliminnary report(Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cervicofacial, 2011-04-01) Garcia, Leonardo Bomediano Sousa [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Pedro Wey de [UNIFESP]; Vidigal, Tatiana de Aguiar [UNIFESP]; Suguri, Vinícius Magalhães [UNIFESP]; Santos, Rodrigo de Paula [UNIFESP]; Gregório, Luiz Carlos [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Although not being the most frequent nasal septal deviations, those of the caudal septum account for many complaints. The correction of such defects has always been the subject of much controversy, and several different operative techniques have been described. AIM: To assess the efficacy of a surgical technique for correcting caudal septal deviations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective study with preliminary reports of 10 patients who answered a standardized, specific questionnaire (the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation, or NOSE), underwent acoustic rhinometry and had their noses photographed. Caudal deviations were then corrected through a surgical technique whereby the entire deviated portion is removed and a straight cartilage segment is placed between the medial crura of the alar cartilages, through a retrograde approach, to support the nasal tip. Sixty days after all patients were reassessed. RESULTS: As for the NOSE questionnaire, mean pre-operative and post-operative scores were 82.39 and 7.39 respectively (p<0.001). Pre-operative acoustic rhinometry showed mean minimum cross-sectional area (MCA) values of 0.352 and 0.431 cm2, whereas mean post-operative values were 0.657 and 0.711 cm2(p<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The study results prove, both subjectively (patient satisfaction as measured with a standardized questionnaire) and objectively (acoustic rhinometry findings), that the proposed technique for correction of caudal septal deviation is safe and effective.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosComparison of assessments of children's eating-disordered behaviors by interview and questionnaire(Wiley-Blackwell, 2003-03-01) Tanofsky-Kraff, M.; Morgan, C. M.; Yanovski, S. Z.; Marmarosh, C.; Wilfley, D. E.; Yanovski, J. A.; NICHHD; Catholic Univ Amer; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); NIDDKD; Washington Univ; US PHSObjective: in adults, interview methods may detect eating-disordered behaviors more accurately than self-report methods. However, no studies have investigated the relationships between interview and self-report assessments in children. We compared results from the Eating Disorder Examination adapted for Children (ChEDE) with the Adolescent version of the Questionnaire on Eating and Weight Patterns (QEWP-A) and with the Children's Eating Attitude Test (ChEAT) in a nontreatment sample of overweight and normal weight children. Method: the ChEDE, QEWP-A, and ChEAT were administered to 46 overweight (body mass index [BMI] at or above the 85th percentile) and 42 normal weight (BMI at the 15th-85th percentile) children, 10 +/- 1.8 years, recruited from the community. Results: the ChEDE and QEWP-A were not concordant for the number or type of eating episodes that occurred in the past month. Compared with the ChEDE, the QEWP-A was reasonably specific, but it was not sensitive for the presence of objective (17% sensitivity, 91% specificity) or subjective bulimic episodes (0% sensitivity, 89% specificity) during the past month. ChEDE and ChEAT global scores were significantly related (Kendall's tau = 0.286, p < .001), but specific items assessing guilt in relation to eating and preoccupation with food were not. Discussion: Although self-report methods of eating disorder assessment in children may provide some general information regarding eating psychopathology in non-treatment-seeking children, they do not accurately reflect the results of a structured interview. The patients were divided into two groups: those who improved after treatment (n=20) and those who did not (n=10) based oil an anchor-based strategy to distinguish between the two groups and assess responsiveness. The t-test, the t-value of the paired t-test, the effect size (ES), and the standardized response mean (SRM) were calculated.ResultsAll four questionnaires registered statistically significant changes (p<0.05) in the improved group between baseline and 3 months after treatment, and no changes in patients who did not improve. All four instruments showed higher ES and SRM values for the patients who improved than those who did not. WORC registered moderate to high ES and SRM values for the improved group, (is did the UCLA and DASH. The ES and SRM values Measured by the SF-36 ranged from small to large, the physical subscales being more responsive than the other subscales.ConclusionThe Brazilian version of the WORC (like UCLA, DASH and SF-36 physical subscales) proved responsive to change and suitable for use in the short-term follow-up of patients after rotator cuff interventions.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Conhecimento de pediatras e nutricionistas sobre o tratamento da alergia ao leite de vaca no lactente(Sociedade de Pediatria de São Paulo, 2007-06-01) Cortez, Ana Paula B. [UNIFESP]; Medeiros, Lilian Cristiane da S. [UNIFESP]; Speridião, Patrícia da Graça Leite [UNIFESP]; Mattar, Regina Helena G. M. [UNIFESP]; Fagundes Neto, Ulysses [UNIFESP]; Morais, Mauro Batista de [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the knowledge of pediatricians and nutritionists regarding the exclusion diet of cow milk and derivates, with emphasis on questions related to the nutrition of children submitted to such diet. METHODS: Cross-sectional study that enrolled pediatricians (n=53) and nutritionists (n=29) from public hospitals in São Paulo, Brazil, during 2005. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires. RESULTS: The age of the professionals varied from 21 to 50 years old. Regarding professional experience, 41.2% were graduated for less than five years and 91.6% had a specialization course, masters and/or PhD degree. The vast majority of professionals (97.5%) confirmed that they regularly evaluated the diet of children that needed exclusion of cow milk. However, only 48% of the professionals conducted a more detailed evaluation of the diet, including calculations of food ingestion. Only 38.7% of the professionals compared child s food ingestion with some recommended pattern. Recommendations for daily ingestion of calcium by children up to the age of 36 months were properly mentioned by 22% of the pediatricians and 60.7% of the nutritionists (p=0.001). Inadequate cow milk substitute products were recommended by 66% of the pediatricians and by 48.3% of the nutritionists. Regarding labels of industrialized products, 81.6% of the pediatricians and 96.4% of the nutritionists advised the parents to look for all terms that could indicate the presence of cow milk protein. CONCLUSIONS: Pediatricians and nutritionists made conceptual errors in their main recommendations regarding the treatment of cow milk protein allergy.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Cross-cultural adaptation of the dysfunctional voiding score symptom (DVSS) questionnaire for Brazilian children(Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia, 2010-08-01) Calado, Adriano A. [UNIFESP]; Araujo, Eleazar M.; Barroso Junior, Ubirajara; Bastos Netto, Jose M.; Zerati Filho, Miguel; Macedo Junior, Antonio [UNIFESP]; Bagli, Darius; Farhat, Walid; Pernambuco State University Division of Pediatric Urology; Federal University of Bahia Division of Pediatric Urology; Federal University of Juiz de Fora Division of Pediatric Urology; Urology and Nephrology Institute Division of Pediatric Urology; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Hospital for Sick Children Division of Pediatric UrologyPURPOSE: To translate and culturally adapt the Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score (DVSS), questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 10-item Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score (DVSS) was translated into Brazilian Portuguese according to a standard methodology: translation, synthesis, back-translation, Expert Committee, and pre-testing. After the translation process the final version was pre-tested and patient responses were analyzed to identify necessary modifications. Reliability was evaluated using the test-retest method, and internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. RESULTS: The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated in the test and retest phases. Internal consistency was found to be satisfactory, as confirmed by a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.76 for the test and 0.77 for the retest. A high degree of stability was found in the test/retest, with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.960 (p < 0.001; 95% CI: 0.943-0.972). CONCLUSION: The cross-cultural adaptation process of the Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score questionnaire to be used on Brazilian children was successfully completed following internationally accepted methodologies.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosDiscriminative properties and validity of a health status questionnaire in obstructive airway disease patients: the Airway Questionnaire 20(Ediciones Doyma S/l, 2007-12-01) Camelier, Aquiles; Rosa, Fernanda W.; Nascimento, Oliver A. [UNIFESP]; Ferrandes, Ana Luiza G. [UNIFESP]; Jardim, José Roberto [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA); Univ Estadual Bahia; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the discriminative properties and validity of the Airways Questionnaire 20 (AQ20) in a sample of patients with airway obstruction and to compare its properties with those of the St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) and the Short Form 36 (SF-36).PATIENTS and METHODS: A convenience sample of 47 subjects was recruited from among 61 consecutive patients referred to an outpatient clinic specialized in obstructive airway diseases. All subjects completed the AQ20, SGRQ, and SF-36. Other measures were the baseline dyspnea index (BDI), 6-minute walk test (6MWT) distance, spirometry, results of arterial blood gas analysis, and body mass index.RESULTS: the AQ20 showed very good correlation with the SGRQ total score (rho=0.84, P <.001) and moderate correlation with all SF-36 domains (physical capacity, rho=-0.53; physical functioning, rho=-0.61; bodily pain, rho=-0.55; general health, rho=4.59; vitality, rho=-0.55; social functioning, rho=-0.57; emotional role functioning, rho=-0.51; mental health, rho=-0.61; all P <.001). the BDI and the 6MWT distance were the best predictors of AQ20 score (r(2)=0.31) in the regression model. An area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.91 (P <.001) indicated a high level of accuracy for the AQ20, using the SGRQ as the gold standard.CONCLUSION: This study shows that the AQ20 is an accurate health status questionnaire in patients with moderate-to-severe airway obstruction. It could be an alternative to longer, traditional questionnaires such as the SGRQ.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Disponibilidade de unidades de terapia intensiva pediátrica e neonatal no município de São Paulo(Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria, 2004-12-01) Souza, Daniela C. de; Troster, Eduardo Juan; Carvalho, Werther Brunow de [UNIFESP]; Shin, Shieh H.; Cordeiro, Andréa M. G.; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: To describe the health care service provided in pediatric intensive care units in the city of São Paulo, by identifying and describing the units and analyzing their geographic distribution. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out during a two-year period (August 2000 to July 2002). Data were collected through questionnaires answered by medical directors of each pediatric and neonatal intensive care unit. RESULTS: São Paulo is served by 107 pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, of which 85 (79.4%) completed and returned the questionnaire. We found a very unequal distribution of units as there were more units in places with the least pediatric population. Regarding to pediatric intensive care units specialization, 7% were pediatric, 41.2% were neonatal and 51.7% were mixed (pediatric and neonatal). Regarding hospital funds, 15.3% were associated with philanthropic institutions, 37.6% were private and 47% were public. A total of 1,067 beds were identified, of which 969 were active. The ratio bed/patient aged 0-14 was 1/2,728, varying from 1/604 at health districts - I to 1/6,812 at health districts - III. The units reported an average of 11.7 beds (2 to 60). The neonatal intensive care unit had a median of 16.9 beds per unit and pediatric intensive care units a median of 8.5 beds/unit. CONCLUSION: In São Paulo, we found an uneven distribution of pediatric and neonatal intensive care units among the health districts. There was also an uneven distribution between public and private units, and neonatal and pediatric ones. The current report is the first step in the effort to improve the quality of medical assistance in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units in São Paulo.

- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Erectile dysfunction in patients with chronic renal failure(Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia, 2007-10-01) Messina, Leonardo E. [UNIFESP]; Claro, Joaquim A. [UNIFESP]; Archimedes, Nardozza [UNIFESP]; Andrade, Enrico [UNIFESP]; Ortiz, Valdemar [UNIFESP]; Srougi, Miguel [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients undergoing hemodialysis MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in a population of 58 patients in hemodialysis program. Erectile dysfunction was assessed by using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). Information on demographic data, renal failure, comorbidities, laboratory tests and search for medical treatment for erectile dysfunction by means of interviews and researches in medical charts was obtained. Student t test was utilized to compare the laboratory results between group of patients with and without erectile dysfunction. The chi-square test was utilized to compare the comorbidities and the characteristics of the population studied between the groups of patients with and without erectile dysfunction. The significance level considered was 5% RESULTS: Mean patient age was 50.2 ± 14.6 years and the time of hemodialysis was 30.4 ± 28.4 months. The prevalence of erectile dysfunction was 60.3%. A progressive increase respecting the age was reported. In patients younger than 50 years, this prevalence reached 31.4% and in patients older than 50 years, this prevalence reached 68.6%. With respect to the comorbidities, hypertensive patients prevailed with 94.8% of the total, whilst diabetic patients represented 24.9%. However only the association between diabetes and erectile dysfunction was significant. Patients with erectile dysfunction presented significantly lower values for serum creatinine and Kt/V. There was no variation between the groups with reference to calcium, potassium, phosphorus, hematocrit, hemoglobin, pre- and post-dialysis urea values. There was no correlation between erectile dysfunction and time of dialysis. Amongst patients with erectile dysfunction, 8.6% sought medical care CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients in hemodialysis program was of 60.3%. Age, diabetes and hemodialysis characteristics are associated to higher incidence of erectile dysfunction.

RESULTS: the mean score in the control group was 0.10, while in the breast hypertrophy group it was 0.71. When Mann-Whitney test was run, hypertrophy group showed statistically higher scores (p < 0.00). CONCLUSION: breast hypertrophy patients have more difficulties to perform common activities of the daily life.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Próteses auditivas e tempos de recuperação: estudo segundo status cognitivo(Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cervicofacial, 2013-04-01) Ghiringhelli, Rosângela [UNIFESP]; Iorio, Maria Cecilia Martinelli [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Studies have shown that elderly people with cognitive impairments benefit more from hearing aids with slower recovery times. OBJECTIVE: To study participation constraints and speech recognition in noise of elderly subjects equipped with hearing aids of different recovery times according to cognitive impairment status. METHOD: Fifty subjects aged between 60 and 80 years were followed for four months. They were divided at first in groups of individuals without (G1; n = 24) and with (G2; n = 26) cognitive impairment based on results of the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale -Cognitive Sub-scale test. Half the members of each group received hearing aids with faster recovery times and half got slower recovery aids, thus forming four groups: two without cognitive impairment (faster recovery - G1F; slower recovery - G1S) and two suspected for cognitive impairment (faster recovery - G2F; slower recovery - G2S). All subjects were interviewed, submitted to basic audiological assessment, asked to answer the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly questionnaire, and tested for speech recognition in noise. ANOVA, McNemar's test, and the Chi-square test were applied. The significance level was set at 5%. RESULTS: There was significant improvement in participation constraint and speech recognition in noise with hearing aids alone. Sub-group G2F needed more favorable signal-to-noise ratios to recognize 50% of the speech in noise. CONCLUSION: Participation constraint and speech recognition in noise were improved regardless of recovery times or cognitive impairment status.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosQuality of life after reduction mammaplasty(Taylor & Francis As, 2004-01-01) Freire, Marcia Aparecida Martins da Silva [UNIFESP]; Sabino Neto, Miguel [UNIFESP]; Garcia, Elvio Bueno [UNIFESP]; Quaresina, Maria Rodrigues [UNIFESP]; Ferreira, Lydia Masako [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Reduction mammaplasty is a common procedure in plastic surgery. Patients seek the operation for neck and lower back pain, and social and emotional problems. the evaluation of health results based on the patient's opinion has become an important and reliable method for the analysis of alterations resulting from treatment. To evaluate the impact of plastic surgery on the quality of life of patients with mammary hypertrophy we used the SF-36 standardised questionnaire in a prospective study of 44 patients preoperatively and three and six months postoperatively. There were significant improvements in seven of the eight aspects of the SF-36 (physical function, physical role, pain, energy, social function, emotional role, and mental health). Only general health was unchanged.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosQuality of life of asthmatic children and adolescents: Portuguese translation, adaptation, and validation of the questionnaire "Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL) Asthma Module"(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2017) Monteiro, Fernanda Pereira [UNIFESP]; Sole, Dirceu [UNIFESP]; Wandalsen, Gustavo [UNIFESP]Objective: The objectives of the study were to translate, validate, and verify the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the instrument Pediatric Quality of Life Asthma Module (PedsQL Asthma) culturally adapted for the Brazilian culture. Methods: After being translated to Portuguese and being culturally adapted, the questionnaire was answered by 200 asthmatic children and adolescents (aged 2-18) as well as the adults responsible for them. Validation required the use of the following instruments: PedsQL Asthma Children (applied to children and adolescents), PedsQL Asthma Parents (applied to adults responsible for children and adolescents), Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life (PAQLQ), Asthma Control Test (ACT) or Childhood Asthma Control Test (C-ACT), as well as socioeconomic and personal information questionnaires. A group of 45 clinically stable children repeated the questionnaires 15-60days after answering the first questionnaire. Results: Correlations between the scores of PedsQL Children and PedsQL Parents (r = 0.67), PedsQL Children and PAQLQ (r = 0.66), and PedsQL Parents and PAQLQ (r = 0.64) were moderate and significant. Correlations were higher for men (r = 0.72) when analyzing the children's and parents' answers to PedsQL according to gender. The 5- to 7-year-old age group had the strongest correlations with PAQLQ (r = 0.79). Cronbach's alpha coefficient for PedsQL Children and Parents had values of 0.85 and 0.87, respectively. A high concordance was observed in both tests at different times, with kappa values of 0.89 and 0.87 for PedsQL Children and Parents, respectively. Conclusion: The instrument used in this study was considered valid, consistent, and reproducible and has acceptable psychometric properties for the Brazilian population.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosQuality of life of hypertensive patients treated at an outpatient clinic(Arquivos Brasileiros Cardiologia, 2007-10-01) Cavalcante, Margaret Assad [UNIFESP]; Bombig, Maria Teresa Nogueira [UNIFESP]; Luna Filho, Bráulio [UNIFESP]; Carvalho, Antonio Carlos de Camargo [UNIFESP]; De Paola, Angelo Amato Vincenzo [UNIFESP]; Povoa, Rui [UNIFESP]; Univ Oeste Paulista UNOESTE; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Background: The main cause of mortality in braziliam population is the cardiovascular disease and arterial hypertension (AH) the most prevalent one. The antihypertensive treatment is effective however it is not well known how affects the quality of life (QOL) in patients afterwards. Objective: To comparatively assess the QOL it) patients submitted to an antihypertensive treatment. Methods: One-hundred patients with AH were studied of which 46 had complied with a standard treatment regimen (group A) and 54 (group B control) were about to start the same regimen. We collected clinical and sociodemographic data and questions focusing sexuality, self-perception of QOL, number and types of medication taken and their influence on sex life. The questionnaire SF-36 was also administered. The data were analyzed using the tests chi-square, Student's t, Pearson correlation and Tukey. Results: No differences were detected between group A and B in any of the SF-36 domains. There was an association between the question on self-perception of QOL and the SF-36 domains, emotional aspects excepted. As regards sexuality, there was difference in the quality of sex life between the groups, which was less satisfactory for group A.Conclusion: When the SF-36 was administered no changes in QOL were detected between the groups because it is an asymptomatic chronic disease. - ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)A questionnaire to evaluate the impact of chronic diseases: validated translation and Illness Effects Questionnaire (IEQ) reliability study(Instituto de Psiquiatria da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, 2012-01-01) Fonseca, Patrícia Pinto; Oliveira, Maria das Graças de; Porto, Jose Alberto Del [UNIFESP]; Tribunal de Justiça do Estado de São Paulo; Universidade de Brasília Faculdade de Medicina; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)INTRODUCTION: Patients' perception about their health condition, mainly involving chronic diseases, has been investigated in many studies and it has been associated to depression, compliance with the treatment, quality of life and prognosis. The Illness Effects Questionnaire (IEQ) is a tool which makes the standardized evaluation of patients' perception about their illness possible, so that it is brief and accessible to the different clinical settings. This work aims to begin the transcultural adaptation of the IEQ to Brazil through the validated translation and the reliability study. METHODS: The back-translation method and the test-retest reliability study were used in a sample of 30 adult patients under chronic hemodialysis. The reliability indexes were estimated using the Pearson, Spearman, Weighted Kappa and Cronbach's alpha coefficients. RESULTS: The semantic equivalence was reached through the validated translation. In this study, the reliability indexes obtained were respectively: 0.85 and 0.75 (p < 0.001); 0.68 and 0.92 (p < 0.0001). DISCUSSION: The reliability indexes obtained attest to the stability of responses in both evaluations. Additional procedures are necessary for the transcultural adaptation of the IEQ to be complete. CONCLUSION: The results indicate the translation validity and the reliability of the Brazilian version of the IEQ for the sample studied.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Relação entre incontinência urinária em mulheres atletas corredoras de longa distância e distúrbio alimentar(Assoc Medica Brasileira, 2008-03-01) Araujo, Maíta Poli de [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Emerson de [UNIFESP]; Zucchi, Eliana Viana [UNIFESP]; Trevisani, Virginia Fernandes Moça [UNIFESP]; Girão, Manoel João Batista Castello [UNIFESP]; Sartori, Marair Gracio Ferreira [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)BACKGROUND. To determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence in female long-distance runners and to compare it with the presence or not of eating disorders. Methods - A total of 37 women have completed the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and the short version of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26). A one-hour pad test was performed to determine urine loss. Mean values of continuous variables were compared using an Independent sample t-test or the Mann-Whitney U test.RESULTS. 23 athletes (62.2%) reported urine loss. The mean of the ICIQ-SF was 4.03 +/- 5.06. There was a significant relation between the 1- hour pad test (p =0, 02) and eating disorders (p =0. 03).CONSLUSIONS. There was urinary incontinence in female long-distance runners and a correlation with eating disorders. Coaches should improve their knowledge about this problem and establish cooperation with a multidisciplinary team.
