- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Cartilagem tragal com pericondrio em timpanoplastias(ABORL-CCF Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial, 2002-05-13) Testa, Jose Ricardo Gurgel [UNIFESP]; Teixeira, Miriam Scapin [UNIFESP]; Ribeiro, Katia M. X.; Pizarro, Gilberto Ulson; Millas, Ieda; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Introduction: the cartilage tympanoplasty began to be use by Jansen in 1963 and has advocated for advanced middle ear problems. The cartilage had excellent survival capacity and tolerate retractions pockets. In 1998 Eavey describe the use of the cartilage butterfly technique with a inlay method. Study design: clinical prospective randomized. Material and method: There were 100 patients with chronic otites media and ear drum perforations with margins and submitted a ear plug tympanoplasty. The perforations ranged in size and approximately 40% of the surface area of the tympanic membrane. The average preoperative conductive hearing loss was 28.3 dB and 9.8 dB postoperative. Results: Total closure of the tympanum occurred in 95,0%. Conclusion: Finally, studying the results it is important to emphasize that the method is easy, with low complications, good audiological results and better anatomical results. It is a good option for the otologist to solve the chronic otites sequelae.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Glycosaminoglycan loss from cartilage after anterior cruciate ligament rupture: influence of time since rupture and chondral injury(Associação Brasileira de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Fisioterapia, 2008-02-01) Mattiello, Stela Márcia; Cintra Neto, Paulo Felix de Araujo; Lima, Geovane Elias Guidini de; Pinto, Karina Nogueira Zambone; Cohen, Moises [UNIFESP]; Pimentel, Edson Rosa; Universidade Federal de São Carlos Department of Physiotherapy; Universidade Federal de São Carlos Department of Morphology and Pathology; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP)OBJECTIVE: To quantify the concentration of sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) concentration in the synovial fluid (SF) of knees with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture and to identify possible associations between GAG concentration in SF and the time elapsed since rupture and degree of chondral injury. METHOD: Fourteen adult male subjects with total unilateral ACL rupture, which had occurred between 5 and 144 months earlier, were assessed. All subjects underwent joint aspiration; it was possible to collect SF from ten individuals. The samples were quantified to determine the GAG concentration using dimethylmethylene blue (DMMB) staining. The degree of chondral injury was macroscopically evaluated using the modified Mankin histological scale. Spearman correlation test (< 0.05) was used to evaluate the association between GAG concentration and chondral injury, and Pearson correlation test (< 0.05) was used to evaluate the association between GAG concentration and the time elapsed since rupture. RESULTS: The GAG concentration in SF showed a mean variation of 73.84 ± 40.75 µg/ml, with a mean time of 40.4 ± 40.3 months since the rupture. There was no correlation between GAG concentration and time since the rupture (r= -0.09, p= 0.81). The chondral injury grades found were 0, 1, 4 and 5. There was no correlation between chondral injury grade and GAG concentration in SF (r= -0.41, p= 0.24). CONCLUSION: After at least 5 months, the GAG concentration in SF from knees with ACL rupture is independent of the time elapsed since rupture and/or the severity of chondral injury.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Policondrite recidivante na infância: relato de caso e revisão da literatura(Sociedade Brasileira de Reumatologia, 2007-06-01) Cavalcanti, André [UNIFESP]; Barbosa, Cassia Maria Passarelli Lupoli [UNIFESP]; Len, Claudio Arnaldo [UNIFESP]; Terreri, Maria Teresa Ramos Ascensão [UNIFESP]; Hilário, Maria Odete Esteves [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Relapsing polychondritis is a rare disease characterized by recurrent episodes of inflammation of the articular, auricular, nasal and laryngotracheal cartilages of variable intensity. Differential diagnosis includes connective tissue diseases, vasculitis and periodic febrile syndromes of childhood. We report a case of 11 year-old boy with knee arthritis, acute conjunctivitis, ear, nose and upper airway cartilage involvement whose disease was controlled with the use of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs. The clinical and laboratory findings were discussed and compared with case reports from literature.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Timpanoplastia com plugue de cartilagem na infância(ABORL-CCF Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial, 2008-12-01) Mendes Neto, José Arruda [UNIFESP]; Neiva, Felipe Costa [UNIFESP]; Brodskyn, Fábio [UNIFESP]; Palumbo, Marcel Das Neves [UNIFESP]; Bittar, Ana Cláudia Valério [UNIFESP]; Petrilli, Roberta Novaes Borges [UNIFESP]; Testa, Jose Ricardo Gurgel [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)The treatment of tympanic membrane perforations in the pediatric population with sequelae of chronic otitis media represents a challenge to otolaryngologists. AIM: to assess the clinical and audiometric results of the inlay technique with a tragus cartilage plug. MATERIALS AND METHODS: we assessed 23 patients (ages between 1 and 15 years) who underwent plug tympanoplasty. Study design: clinical retrospective. RESULTS: repair success rate was of 82.6%, with audiometric parameters improvement in 87.5% of the patients. Complications were minimum. CONCLUSION: considering the results attained, this method of tympanoplasty should be considered a good treatment option for tympanic membrane perforation in children.
