- ItemSomente MetadadadosAnxiety and Fear-Avoidance in Musculoskeletal Pain(Current Medicine Group, 2012-10-01) Lucchetti, Giancarlo [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Arao Belitardo [UNIFESP]; Peres Mercante, Juliane Prieto; Prieto Peres, Mario Fernando [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); São Paulo Med Spiritist Assoc; Albert Einstein HospMusculoskeletal pain (MP) is common in the general population and has been associated with anxiety in several ways: (a) muscle tension is included as a part of the diagnostic criteria for generalized anxiety disorder, (b) pain can be a common symptom and a good indicator of an anxiety disorder, (c) anxiety is an independent predictor of quality of life in patients with chronic MP, (d) anxiety leads to higher levels of pain chronification, and (e) fear, anxiety, and avoidance are related to MP. the objective of this article is to explore the mechanisms underlying the relation between anxiety disorders and musculoskeletal pain as well as its management. We have also highlighted the role of spirituality and religiosity in MP treatment. We found some similarities between proposed mechanisms and explicative models for both conditions as well as an overlapping between the treatments available. the recognition of this association is important for professionals who deal with chronic pain.

Survival rate is widely used to evaluate the success of all treatments available for renal replacement, but the patient's perception of his quality of life (QoL) should be valued in all modalities. Objectives: To compare QOL of renal patients when on dialysis and after renal transplantation and to correlate it with sociodemographic variables; morbidities and spirituality/religiosity to QOL of renal transplant patients. Methods: In 2007, we evaluated the QOL of 477 chronic renal patients submitted to hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD). After seven years, the QoL of the patients who were part of the initial sample and received the renal transplant were evaluated using the KDQOL-SF instrument; besides these sociodemographic and economic data, spirituality/religiosity information were collected through the WHOQOL-SRPB instrument. Results: Twenty-seven renal transplant recipients were evaluated, out of a total of 63, 15 of whom underwent hemodialysis and 12 underwent peritoneal dialysis. There was a significant improvement in some dimensions of QoL in the post-transplant period and a positive impact of spirituality/religiosity on QoL in some dimensions. Conclusion: Renal transplantation provided improvement in important aspects of QOL in the chronic renal patient, such as: mental composit, effects of kidney disease and burden of kidney disease. Sociodemographic characteristics such as gender, marital status, race, work situation and religion also influenced these indexes. Practices of spirituality / religiosity positively impacted the QoL of renal transplant patients.

Studies on meditative practices or structured learning of selfperception and relaxation techniques, performed during the training of the health professional, have shown positive results under several emotional aspects. In this way, the objective of this research is to evaluate the effects of an elective discipline on "Practices of care for the promotion of integral health: basis in spirituality and neuroscience" for nursing, phonoaudiology and medical students of the Federal University of São Paulo, regarding the handling of emotions. This is a case study with 38 undergraduate students from UNIFESP, divided into two groups: experimental, with 24 students who attended the discipline and control, with 14 students who did not attend. The groups were evaluated in two moments: preintervention and postintervention. The discipline included meditative practices of focused attention, body scanning, attention to breathing, open heart and gentleness, training mindfulness through perceptions of physical sensations, emotions, feelings, and thoughts. The theoretical and practical contents were contextualized with the cultivation of spirituality and the relationship with neuroscience. Elective discipline lasted nine weeks, totaling 36 hours. The techniques of data collection used were group interviews, psychometric scales and participant observation. The following Scales were applied: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule X (PANASX) and WellBeing IndexWHO5. Group interviews were conducted at the beginning and end of elective discipline. Participant observations were recorded during the course. The qualitative data were analyzed through the methodology of Content Thematic Categorical Analysis and the quantitative data through descriptive and comparative statistical analysis. As a main result, there were significant changes between preand postintervention in the positive and negative affect scale scores (PANASX). The other variables did not show a significant difference (p> 0.05). The qualitative results revealed five categories of analysis: 1. I am responsible for all, almost like a superhero; 2. Search for selfknowledge and selfcontrol; 3. Difficulty of living the present moment and anxiety to control the future; 4. The meditative practice of mindfulness for selfperception and handling of emotions; 5. The experience marked by kindness and gentleness, for spirituality. Conclusion: the discipline promoted integral health with reduction of negative affections, with abilities for the handling of emotions and the cultivation of spirituality.

A convenient sample of 162 HD patients was included in this descriptive, cross-sectional study. The DUREL-F and SCS-F exhibited acceptable internal consistency and stability reliability, as well as excellent content and construct validity. The findings confirmed the soundness of the psychometric properties of the two scales. Thus, they can be used for timely and accurate assessment of religiosity and spiritual coping utilization among Filipino patients receiving HD.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Qualidade de vida e coping religioso espiritual de idosos institucionalizados e da comunidade(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2016) Vitorino, Luciano Magalhaes [UNIFESP]; Vianna, Lucila Amaral Carneiro [UNIFESP]; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6124111600274508; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3703970591088361; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Objectives: The objectives of this study were: 1) to investigate the association of spiritual religious coping (SRC) strategies and quality of life (QOL) of nursing home residents (NHRs); 2) to compare the effects of positive SRC and negative SRC on the QOL of older adults residents in nursing home and community-dwelling; 3) to assess the psychometric properties of the BRIEF-SRC scale using exploratory and confirmatory analysis. Methods: Analytical study with design or cross-sectional and probability sampling was conducted between September 2013 and March 2014, with 326 community-dwelling residents (CDRs) of the cities of Santa Rita do Sapucai and Pouso Alegre, both located in the southern state of Minas Gerais. For comparison, secondary data research was held in 2010 with 77 older adults residents in two nursing home, located in the same cities of CDRs. To collect data, a questionnaire on sociodemographic and health, Mini-Mental State Examination (for CDRs), BRIEFSRC scale, WHOQOL-BREF instrument and the WHOQOL-OLD module were used. For statistical analysis, the bivariate tests and multivariate models were used. For psychometric analysis of BRIEF-SRC scale was used factor analysis: exploratory and confirmatory. Results: The mean age of the CDRs was 67.22 (SD ± 4.84) years and NHRs was 76.56 ±9.46 years. Most of the CDRs was female (68.1%), about NHRs, the distribution was balanced with 50.6% female. Regarding the NHRs, most aspects of QOL was positively correlated with the positive SRC and Total SRC. It was observed that the SRC behaviors were significantly associated with QOL in both groups of older adults, but the effect of positive SRC was higher among NHRs in six aspects of QOL. Identified through the psychometric properties that BRIEF-SRC scale is a promising scale, but other psychometric analyzes are needed, especially in the dimension of negative SRC. The findings confirm an alternative model with 34 items and not 49 items and the use of only positive SRC and negative SRC and exclusion of the total score. Conclusion: The SRC strategies were associated with most aspects of QOL of both older adults groups, with highlighted on the QOL of NHRs. The findings suggest an alternative model of BRIEF-SRC scale with 34 items that can reduce the burden of researchers, health care professionals and patients. These findings may help researchers and health care professionals to better understand the importance of religious and spiritual beliefs practices on the QOL of older adults, and encourage the inclusion of activities that promote increased older adult’s QOL.

METHODS: It was interviewed 464 medical and law students of Pelotas, Brazil. Data collection was carried out in groups in the school classroom, 43 absent students were not interviewed and represented a loss of 9.3% of the sample. It was used a self-reported questionnaire with three instruments: 1) Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), 2) SRQ-20, and 3) a precoded questionnaire with questions on sociodemographic data, religious/spiritual practices, and stressful life events. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square test and logistic regression. RESULTS: Most of the students (80%) declared that they had a spiritual belief and/or religious denomination. The mean score of spiritual well-being was 90.4 with scores 45.6 and 45.1 in the existential and religious subscales, respectively. SWBS showed an association with religious practices, but it was not influenced by sociodemographic and cultural variables. Subjects presenting low and moderate spiritual well-being showed a doubled risk of presenting minor psychiatric disorders (MPD) (OR=0.42; 95%CI: 0.22-0.85). Subjects presenting low or moderate existential well-being showed almost five times more MPD (OR=0.19; 95%CI: 0.08-0.45). CONCLUSIONS: The study reveals spiritual well-being as a protection factor for minor psychiatric disorders, and that the results were mostly due to the Existential Well-Being subscale.

Conclusion: the exercise of spirituality and religiosity can be a positive coping strategy to support the traditional therapy of patients with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. However, it is necessary to demystify myths and beliefs about the epilepsy and improve knowledge about this important health dimension among professionals, patients, and caregivers to explore their full treatment and supportive potential.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosSpiritual Religious Coping is Associated with Quality of Life in Institutionalized Older Adults(Springer, 2016) Vitorino, Luciano Magalhaes [UNIFESP]; Lucchetti, Giancarlo; Santos, Ana Eliza Oliveira [UNIFESP]; Lucchetti, Alessandra L. G.; Ferreira, Eric Batista; Adami, Nilce Piva [UNIFESP]; Vianna, Lucila Amaral Carneiro [UNIFESP]The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between spiritual/religious coping (SRCOPE) strategies and quality of life (QoL) in institutionalized older adults. This is a cross-sectional, correlational study, with a sample of 77 older adults in Brazil. The present study found long-term care patients use religious and spiritual coping strategies to deal with their chronic health conditions. Positive SRCOPE and Total SRCOPE have positive correlations with most QoL domains from the WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-BREF. On the other hand, Negative SRCOPE strategies correlated negatively with the facets of "death and dying" from the WHOQOL-OLD. These results suggest the need for an integrative approach for long-term care patients, considering the positive and negative aspects of coping.

[UNIFESP]; Leao, Frederico C.; Moreira-Almeida, Alexander; Koenig, Harold G.; São Paulo Med Spiritist Assoc; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Albert Einstein Hosp; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Univ Juiz de Fora; Duke UnivThe purpose of the current study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Duke Religion Index (PDUREL) in a community setting. PDUREL was translated and adapted for administration to 383 individuals from a population-based study of low-income community-dwelling adults. the PDUREL intrinsic subscale and total scores demonstrated high internal consistency (alphas ranging from 0.733 for the total scale score to 0.758 for the intrinsic subscale). Correlations among the DUREL subscales were also examined for evidence of discriminant validity. Correlations were ranging from 0.36 to 0.46, indicating significant overlap between the scales without marked redundancy. PDUREL is a reliable and valid scale. the availability of a comprehensive, but brief measure of religiousness can help to study the role of religiousness in health by researchers from countries that speak the Portuguese language.
