- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Authorship for scientific papers: the new challenges(Soc Brasil Cirurgia Cardiovasc, 2010-10-01) Garcia, Carla Costa; Martrucelli, Cristina Ribeiro Nabuco; Rossilho, Marilisa de Melo Freire; Denardin, Odilon Victor Porto [UNIFESP]; Univ Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho UN; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Hosp HeliopolisThe dissemination of the practice of collaborative authorship (coauthorship) in Brazil and in the international scientific community has been accompanied by an increasing occurrence of frauds, manipulations and other deviations in the assignment of responsibility for a scientific paper. This article discusses the criteria for authorship attribution, the reasons for the growing indices of coauthorship and the challenges to determine authorship in electronic journals. Through literature review and case study (bibliographic search in scientific database), it shows ways to avoid that misbehaviors related to the authorship attribution affect the credibility of science.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Critérios de autoria em trabalhos científicos: um assunto polêmico e delicado(Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Cardiovascular, 2004-12-01) Monteiro, Rosangela; Jatene, Fabio Biscegli; Goldenberg, Saul [UNIFESP]; Población, Dinah Aguiar; Pellizzon, Rosely de Fátima [UNIFESP]; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Sociedade Brasileira para o Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa em Cirurgia Núcleo de Comunicação Científica em CirurgiaAspects related to the authorship of scientific publications, inherent responsibilities, unethical practices and criteria for definition are discussed in this article. Moreover, the article presents a reflection on the role of editors of scientific journals in respect to inpproper authorship, reinforcing the importance of the issue and suggesting ethical criteria for its determination.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Declaration of input sources in scientific research: should this practice be incorporated to organizational information management?(Escola de Ciência da Informação da UFMG, 2013-06-01) De Sordi, José Osvaldo; Meireles, Manuel; Cirani, Cláudia Brito Silva; Azevedo, Marcia Carvalho de [UNIFESP]; FACCAMP; UNINOVE; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This research studies the declaration of input sources for research in scientific communications, more specifically, whether this practice of the academy may be considered a good example to be followed by organizations. Seven hypotheses address two dimensions of input sources: origin (primary or secondary) and nature (data or information). It appears that the declaration of research inputs in the academy is problematic, mostly incomplete or inaccurate. This does not reduce the importance of this practice; it simply indicates that the academy should not be considered a privileged space, with wide dominance and practice excellence. Nevertheless, the information environment of organizations can learn and benefit from the experience of the scientific academy. From the analyses of the research sample, a set of procedures has been developed, which allowed organizational analysts and researchers to elaborate a complete and accurate analysis of the input sources to be declared in organizational or scientific communication.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)A eclosão dos periódicos do Brasil e cenários para o seu porvir(Faculdade de Educação da Universidade de São Paulo, 2014-06-01) Packer, Abel Laerte [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Quality journals in Brazil have achieved remarkable progress in recent years, with an increasing presence in international bibliographic indexes and on the Web. This is primarily due to Brazilian authors from different fields of knowledge, communicating the results of their research in English and/or Portuguese. At least 80% of their original and review articles that are internationally indexed have a Brazilian affiliation, representing approximately 30% of the total indexed scientific production from Brazil. However, this national centrality has a low impact when measured by the number of citations received in the indexes in comparison to that of journals from developed countries. Despite their performance being comparable to that of journals from emerging countries, and although open access publishing results in an extraordinary number of article downloads, most journals of Brazil face the challenge of becoming qualified to compete on a national and international level for better quality manuscripts, as well as of improving their performance in the international indexes. This sought-after qualification demands that these journals overcome the inherent limitations of institutional, management, and financing conditions in which they operate, while advancing professionalization, internationalization, and innovation in the editing, publishing, and dissemination processes, in order to be aligned with international state-of-the-art standards. This article presents an overview of the main bibliometric and editorial management characteristics of the 400 journals of Brazil indexed in Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS). It also projects scenarios for changing the current framework by promoting journals considered as international benchmarks and the way journals are evaluated and funded.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Revistas brasileiras publicadoras de artigos científicos em cirurgia. II - Terminologia e atribuições adotadas pelos editores. Proposta de organograma do periódico e fluxograma do artigo(Sociedade Brasileira para o Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa em Cirurgia, 2003-12-01) Población, Dinah Aguiar; Goldenberg, Saul [UNIFESP]; Montero, Edna Frasson de Souza [UNIFESP]; Gomes, Paulo de Oliveira [UNIFESP]; Campanatti-Ostiz, Heliane; Moreira, Márcia Bento; Santos, Aparecida Cássia dos [UNIFESP]; Pellizzon, Rosely de Fátima [UNIFESP]; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); NCCCPURPOSE: To identify the terminology adopted by the editor to assign the editorial board members and attributions related to the team components responsible for the policies, administration, and contents quality of the journal. To recommend the journal organogram and the article fluxogram. METHODS: It was analyzed more recent numbers from selected journals, available at Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information and other medical libraries from Brazil, presented at the first part of this research. In this sample, it was identified the terminology and attributions adopted by the editors from each journal to designate the responsible for the content and the style of the journal. RESULTS: The adopted terminology for the editorial board in each journal was collected showing the diversification of the terms for similar functions. It was identified 74 terms, classified in five categories, assigning activities exerted by the editorial board members, involved in the journal production and diffusion. Under the editorial perspective, printed or electronic, the categorization of the different phases of the process provided subsidies to elaborate the Organogram of the scientific periodical. The interpretation of the activities and responsibilities of each member in the organogram is described in the Profile and responsibilities of the editorial board members. To insert each member of the editorial board, according to its respective responsibility, it was possible to elaborate the Paper fluxogram. CONCLUSION: There is no uniformity to designate terms and attributions for the members of the editorial board in the studied journals. Recommendations are presented for the journal organogram and the article fluxogram.
METHODS: Instruction for authors of 20 journals were analyzed and classified following Vancouver requirements. Instructions were taken from SciELO, from the journals homepage, or from the last printed issue available in BIREME s collection. Results were descriptively analyzed, considering the frequency of each variable. RESULTS: 75% of the journals recommended ICMJE Uniform Requirements, although not always the newest version was indicated; 90% of the journals mentioned ethical research principles, 80% the peer-review process and 70% the conflict of interests and the author rights transfer agreement. Foreign languages frequently accepted were English (80%) and Spanish (30%). All journals publish original papers, followed by reviews (90%), case reports (80%), letters to the editor (70%), and clinical updates or continuing education (55%). The nomenclature for the sections varied among journals. CONCLUSION: Even though publishing freedom and independence of each publisher must be respected, there are internationally accepted criteria that must be observed. The current trends, towards the prioritization of open access electronic journals, will lead to important changes in the process of publishing scientific journals.
