    “Amante, amásia, transeira e subversiva”: as representações de Iara Iavelberg na grande imprensa durante a ditadura civil-militar

    This Senior Thesis analyzes corporate media representations of the São Paulo-based urban guerrilla Iara Iavelberg during the civil-military dictatorship that controlled the Brazilian government from 1964 to 1985. The case of Iavelberg was selected because of the relatively high level of attention she received for being her relatively prominent representation in mainstream newspapers as the mistress of Carlos Lamarca, one of the dictatorship’s more notorious opponents. The main objective is to understand how the press constructed the image of the “female militant” during a time of intense conflict. The research concurs with other literature in demonstrating how being a woman contributed to extremely disparaging representations since, especially at that time, the conventions of morality and good manners demanded that woman stay within the private sphere – caring for children, husband and home –leaving the public sphere to men.

    E os atabaques ecoam no jornal: discurso e estratégias de legitimação umbandista através de Leal de Souza - Rio de Janeiro (1920 - 1946)

    This essay aims to reflect and analize the reports by the poet and journalist Leal de Souza in the newspapers Jornal da Noite (1924) and Diário de Notícias (1932), who is considered the first person to write about the belief in the area of Religious Literature of Umbanda. By analizing his writings together with the First National Congress of Umbanda (1941) that took place in the city of Rio de Janeiro, we intend to elucidate about the standardization strategies so that the religion could be accepted socially.

    Identidade internacional brasileira e a imprensa francesa: uma busca pela originalidade e a virtude da diferença

    Este trabalho trata da identidade internacional brasileira, a partir das narrativas produzidas pela imprensa esportiva francesa. Utiliza como material empírico os artigos editados pelo sítio eletrônico ww.lequipe.fr durante o período de 2010 até o ano de 2014. Compara as representações e narrativas construídas durante o período analisado com as construções identitárias nacional e internacional do Brasil pela interface do futebol brasileiro. O objetivo se trata da discussão das identidades por meio da mídia. A hipótese apresentada é que o discurso da identidade internacional brasileira na mídia internacional estaria mudando, apoiado no contexto pós-moderno o discurso deveria ou poderia não ser mais constante e/ou uníssono. Discute a ambiguidade midiática através do ―falatório‖, a codificação hierárquica da sociedade brasileira, o lugar das Copas do Mundo como tradições inventadas e discurso moderno ressonante, a paisagem mítica criada, e o uso do senso comum nas representações sociais, tudo permeado pelo consentimento. Ainda, traz uma realocação da identidade como diferença. Assim, a ideia fixa do discurso compartilhado de superioridade, estilo, e identidade internacional brasileira pelo futebol estaria sendo revista, não só nacionalmente como internacionalmente.
