Previously this work has been poorly studied by scholars and had little impact among Lobato’s readers, but gained more prominence with the Barack Obama’s election contest in the United States and the accusations of racist content of his children's books. Using the relations between literature and history, we will seek to understand how the eugenics ideas contemporary to the author dialogue with the work. The support of the eugenics movement by Monteiro Lobato (mostly explicit by his relationship with Renato Kehl and Arthur Neiva) inspired him to write this book as pro-eugenics propaganda, a fact largely neglected by mostly the historiography as by literary critics of Lobato. Therefore the guiding principle of this research will be a detailed review of the book The Black President and their relationships with such ideas.
