- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Algorithm for acne treatment: Ibero-Latin American consensus(Soc Brasileira Dermatologia, 2017) Bagatin, Edileia [UNIFESP]; Florez-White, Mercedes; Isabel Arias-Gomez, Maria; Kaminsky, AnaAcne is a chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory disease with high prevalence among adolescents. By compromising face, thorax and back, with the risk of permanent scars, it has a negative impact on the quality of life. Effective, safe and early treatment is the key to remission, while decreasing the risk of physical and/or emotional sequelae. The Iberian-Latin American Group of Acne Studies joined professionals with expertise and developed a practical therapeutic algorithm, adapted to the reality of Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal. This article intends to disseminate it with an updated review on a rational, safe and effective acne treatment.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Development and validation of an algorithm for laser application in wound treatment(Univ Sao Paulo, Escola De Enfermagem De Ribeirao Preto, 2017) da Cunha, Diequison Rite; Salome, Geraldo Magela; Massahud Junior, Marcelo Renato; Mendes, Bruno; Ferreira, Lydia Masako [UNIFESP]Objective: To develop and validate an algorithm for laser wound therapy. Method: Methodological study and literature review. For the development of the algorithm, a review was performed in the Health Sciences databases of the past ten years. The algorithm evaluation was performed by 24 participants, nurses, physiotherapists, and physicians. For data analysis, the Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the chi-square test for independence was used. The level of significance of the statistical test was established at 5% (p<0.05). Results: The professionals' responses regarding the facility to read the algorithm indicated: 41.70%, great

Predicted postoperative FEV1 (FEV1ppo) was sufficient to define the risk level in 156 patients (65.3%); however, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) was necessary for identifying those at high risk. Lung resection was performed in 145 patients. Overall morbidity and mortality rates were similar to those reported in other studies. However, morbidity and mortality rates for patients at an acceptable risk of PCs were 31.6% and 4.3%, respectively, whereas those for patients at high risk were 83.3% and 33.3%. Advanced age, COPD, lobe resection, and lower FEV1ppo were correlated with PCs.CONCLUSIONS:Although spirometry was sufficient for risk assessment in the majority of the population studied, CPET played a key role in the identification of high-risk patients, among whom the mortality rate was seven times higher than was that observed for those at an acceptable risk of PCs. The risk factors related to PCs coincided with those reported in previous studies.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosResultados preliminares de um algoritmo para ablação de lente de contato personalizada(Consel Brasil Oftalmologia, 2009-03-01) Matos, Luciana de [UNIFESP]; Carvalho, Luis Alberto Vieira de [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Purpose: To develop a computer simulation for customized soft contact lenses in order to correct aberrations of higher order. Methods: Using real data from a patient diagnosed with keratoconus, which were measured using a Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor, the thickness of the contact lenses that compensate these aberrations as well the numbers of pulses required to ablate the lenses were specifically determined for the patient. Results: The maps of correction are presented and the numbers of pulses are calculated, using a 0.5 mm beam width and a 0.3 mu m ablation depth. Conclusions: The results shown here are promising, but they should be improved so that the ablation in actual physical systems can reach the desired accuracy.

METHODS: An optical system for conjugating images from an infrared and white light illuminated pupil was designed and mounted using an ophthalmoscope helmet and a typical diving mask as support for a high-resolution and sensitivity CCD. Using an IBM compatible computer sequences of video in AVI format were digitized for several seconds at a mean rate of 30 Hz. Algorithms using principles of image processing were implemented for detection of the pupil edges. RESULTS: We present preliminary results of this system for a voluntary patient. Data for the horizontal (x) and vertical (y) central position and for the diameter of the pupil were then exported to files that could be read by typical spread sheet programs (Excel). CONCLUSIONS: In this manner, precise data can be obtained stereoscopically (for both pupils at the same time) for any patient, given that the accommodation process is guaranteed by using a white LED virtual mire located 6 meters from the patient's eye. An electronic board precisely controls the level of illumination. We believe here developed instrument may be useful in certain ophthalmic practices where precise pupil geometric data are needed.
