    Sucesso nacional: violência estatal e relativização do racismo como narrativas do filme Tropa de Elite

    This essay aims to analyze two narratives identified in the film “Elite Squad” (2007). The movie choice comes from its importance as it became a phenomenon of brazilian national cinema at the time of its release, well-marked by the clandestine media in which the film was leaked, and by how it became the subject of heated debates around its plot. Specifically, the analysis will be made from the narratives constructed through the main characters, primarily from the point of view of the narrator-protagonist and the representation of two other characters that are vital to the film’s context. Through film analysis, I will identify the construction of the predominance of two groups at war: the BOPE police and the drug traffickers of Rio de Janeiro’s slums, as well as the relativization of racism, made through the protagonist’s speeches, which permeate and lead the entire movie.
